Se inicio tocando bateria y descubrió enorme relación con el genero blues y otras bandas de la etapa como The Doors , hasta que en 1968 nace el emprendimiento The Stooges y la publicación de su book debut que tenia una colosal esencia del movimiento punk de esta década. En 1970 la banda edita su segundo disco compacto “Fun House” que no logro muchas ventas, pero que en las muestras se podía ver un colosal trabajo escénico de su vocalista que solía tener un movimiento bastante histriónico en el momento de cantar en vivo.
